Reality of the Republican definition of 'Capitalism'

Reality of the Republican definition of 'Capitalism'
This is a country where millions of people have no healthcare. The infant mortality rate is worse than in many "third-world" countries, and there is no safety net for the elderly and disabled such as Social Security. Millions of people are thrown out of their homes while the government spends over a trillion dollars of the taxpayers money (YOUR money) to bail out the huge banks and financial institutions that caused all those foreclosures, and caused the markets to crash with their insatiable greed.
Tax cuts go to the richest 5% of the population who don't need it. There is no minimum wage, and giant corporations are given billions of dollars in tax breaks and "incentives" even as they ship jobs overseas where cheap slave-labor is permitted, and devise schemes to avoid paying their fair share of property taxes. Employers are allowed to discriminate against women and racial minorities in their hiring practices and wage scales. There is no such thing as "overtime pay." There are no basic safety regulations to protect workers and the public.

Republicans derogatively label 'Socialism':

This is a country in which the rich pay their fair share. Everybody has healthcare. The young and the old have shelter, heat and enough food to eat. Corporations and the financial system are regulated by common sense rules that protect their workers and the public, and ensure fair wages and prevent discrimination. Businesses that create jobs here instead of using cheap foreign labor get preferential treatment. Corporations have much less political influence in Washington, and the interests of citizens is paramount.

Union People

Union People
The working union people of this country are an amazing lot. Against all odds, they will walk off their jobs and strike, enduring significant hardships sometimes for months or even years – and why? To protect future generations of workers - and to preserve elusive concepts like “dignity” and “respect.” The generosity of the American working class and their willingness to help others is downright awe-inspiring. We just keep on trying.

Shed Blood

I shed blood and suffered pain, I learned about fear, boredom and what being alone was really about. I believe very strongly about that man has a right to unite and form a Union to better his life and for his family.
And for those reasons... I have been called a communist by some who has never served his country but only has taken from it. Thank you Glenn Beck for all that you have done to make this a better country.

President Bush

Last Month of Term
Reporter--Mr Bush, there's been a lot of talk on the subject of outsourcing, and the effect it's had on US jobs. Do you have any thoughts on this?
President Bush--Well, I would allow my Secretary of Labor to answer this question himself. However, he is currently at our new Labor Department headquarters in Bangalor India, and will be back sometime next week.

Are you under the impression that the purpose of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was to support American business? If you are, we were both mistaken. The Chamber has joined forces with Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to oppose the “Buy American” provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

What is a Union Millwright

The person who works with his hands is a laborer; the person that works with his hands and his head is an artisan; the person who works with his hands, his head and his heart is a Union Millwright

Time to put America back to work. With well paying jobs!!! Call it protectionism if you want, but it is time to scrap NAFTA and the other trade agreements and negotiate better ones, time to put tariffs on some imported goods and time to STOP trading with China (they devalue their currency unfairly & don't have any environmental or worker protections). Our "Wal-Mart" attitude is killing us... it is all very shortsighted!

These Free Market policies are the ones that are killing us all!

Free Market means... We have to be paid 3rd world wages.

I want my tax money going to buying goods MADE IN THE U.S.A.

I am for ANY program to find out who is stealing our identification, who is working in our country illegally and we need to deport their whole families. There are more than 30 million illegal aliens in our country - something has to be done. They are sucking the life out of our existence

I did not vote for our President Obama and I do not know if he will be any better than President Bush. They are both politicians. Only time will tell...
I do know that the recession started during the last three years of President Bush's administration. Which lead to the loss of jobs, which lead to loss of homes and property. This has also continued thru President Obama's administration.

Supporters say

According to the Bush administration, the agreement has been "improving lives and reducing poverty in Mexico."

contributed to a 24% rise in Mexico's per capita income. "NAFTA gave us a big push," Vicente Fox, President of Mexico, tells Business Week. "It gave us jobs. It gave us knowledge, experience, technological transfer."

The accord has stimulated democratic reform and opened markets in Mexico

Detractors contend

The agreement has taken a toll on both U.S. and Mexican jobs, according to the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS). While real wages for Mexican manufacturing workers declined 13.5%, more than half a million U.S. employees have entered government retraining programs after their companies moved production south of the border, says IPS.

The new study also found that NAFTA has been ineffective in stemming the tide of illegal Mexican immigrants entering the U.S. to find jobs. In fact, according to most estimates, the number of Mexicans working illegally in the U.S. surged to 4.8 million in 2000, more than twice the 1990 total.

The loss of many manufacturing employment can be attributed to U.S. manufacturers transplanting jobs to overseas locations.

Who is out of work

Who is out of work?

For the past decade ALL of the wealth created in this country has been sent to the top 2%... Not one NET job was produced under the Bush administration, no worker protections were ever seriously put into place to protect American workers wages from being undercut by illegal immigrant labor and these un-American trade treaties have sold out our entire manufacturing base. Wages for the average American worker have remained stagnate and have even gone down in most industries this past decade... Is anyone surprised that the economy is in the worst shape ever, especially if you factor in all the corruption and de-regulation that occurred on top of this all!
